• Former Tottenham midfielder airlifted to hospital in Stanley
• Ricky Villa escapes injury in crash while filming documentary
Ossie Ardiles is in hospital following a car crash in the Falkland Islands.
The World Cup winner and former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, who is 61, is believed to be in the Falklands making a television documentary with his former Spurs team-mate Ricky Villa, also 61. Villa is not thought to have been injured in the accident on Monday night.
Ardiles's daughter, Aimee, tweeted: "Just to let everyone know Ossie Ardiles is fine. He was involved in a car accident and had stitches in his head but he is fine."
South Atlantic News Agency reported that Ardiles was airlifted to King Edward Memorial hospital in Stanley, the capital of the Falklands.
A nurse at the hospital described Ardiles as "fine", according to Mail Online.
Both players featured in Argentina's 1978 World Cup triumph, with Ardiles playing in the final against the Netherlands, which the host nation won 3-1 after extra time in Buenos Aires. They then headed to London to join Spurs and played in the 1981 FA Cup final victory over Manchester City in which Villa scored a mesmerising winner in the replay.
