Carlton Road crash: Tributes paid to victim Abubakr Ahmed This is Nottingham -- A NOTTINGHAM student who was killed in a car crash "was full of life, laughter and energy", his family have said. Abubakr Ahmed, 22, was in a Vauxhall Corsa which smashed into a tree in Carlton Road, Sneinton. Both he and fellow Nottingham Trent University student Janaid Shafiq, 19, died at the scene. In a moving tribute, his family and best friend have told of their grief. In an e-mailed statement the family, of Peterborough, said: "Abubakr was full of life, laughter and energy. A beautiful young man inside and out. "Abubakr would bring happiness to everyone around him. Anyone who knew him or met him for the first time would be in awe of him. "An ambitious young man who had his future mapped out, wanting to set up his own business after graduating. "Abubakr's laugh was contagious, truly the life and soul. You could not be sad or down in his company. "He loved being around people, making friends everywhere he went. His caring and generous nature was truly inspirational, an example to us all. "As much as we have tried, our words have not been able to do justice to Abubakr's character." Abubakr's best friend Sohail Akhtar, who had known him since primary school, said: "He [was] a great person, the best of the best. "He could never see me upset. If he ever knew I was down, he would do anything to lift my mood. We were more like brothers. "I loved spending time with him alone - just the two of us, whether it was shopping, at home or outings. "He had a beautiful character and was one in a million. I will always pray to God that I will have Abubakr as a best friend again and again." After the crash, which happened at 11.20pm on Tuesday, January 7, tribute pages were set up on Facebook for both men. The page for Janaid, who was from Bobbers Mill, said: "A son, grandson, nephew and brother. In all categories he succeeded to be the one that stood out. He was a respective and kind-hearted individual." Both men were in a silver/grey Corsa, believed to be travelling in convoy with a blue Audi, when the crash happened. No-one else was hurt. Two men, aged 21 and 24, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remain on bail pending further police inquiries. Reported by This is 12 hours ago.
