![Double-crash A15 Thurlby road speed limit to be reduced to 40mph]()
This is Lincolnshire -- The speed limit through a Lincolnshire village where two 11-year-old girls were seriously injured while crossing the road will be cut by 20mph next month. In the first of two crashes on the A15 at Thurlby near Bourne, the girls suffered serious head injuries in a collision with a minibus. They had got off their school bus on Tuesday afternoon when the crash happened. And yesterday, drivers and passengers involved in a four-car crash near the scene all escaped serious injury. Lincolnshire Police are still investigating the cause of the collision involving the girls - and there is no inference that speed was a factor in either incident. Today both girls, pupils at Bourne Academy, are still 'critical but stable' with head injuries and limb fractures. The speed reduction from 60 to 40mph, which was approved in December, comes after six years of campaigning. Thurlby Parish Council, which has campaigned for crossings and a 40mph limit, got its wish in December when Lincolnshire county highways approved the speed reduction. Villagers who were told it would take up to 10 weeks for the signs to go up have been told that the new limit would be imposed in mid-February. The authority has also indicated that it will reconsiderrequests for a crossing in Thurlby. Brian Thompson is the head of highways at Lincolnshire county Council. He said: "My thoughts are, of course, with both children following this tragic accident. "I would like to send my heartfelt sympathy to their families and friends. "The police investigation to understand the cause of the crash is still underway and it would be inappropriate to comment any further at this time."
