It is understood that the middle-aged man who was driving the lorry sustained a minor head injury, while the man in his 70s who was driving the car, and his wife who was a similar age, also sustained minor injuries. They were all taken to Torbay Hospital. Sergeant Lou Costin said: "We had to close the road completely for around 10 minutes while we got the casualties out. There was debris everywhere. "The car started to smoke so as a precaution we called the fire service who sent two appliances." Lindsay Bailey, 47, from Brixham, was driving her Rover 25 up South Street when the collision happened. Her 19-year-old daughter Olivia Vango was also in the car. Mrs Bailey said: "There was a huge crash and the lorry came hurtling towards us. Debris flew over our car. I swerved onto the pavement to avoid the signpost that was flying towards the windscreen. "My daughter is really shaken up. She said if I hadn't swerved we would be dead and I think she's right. We're feeling very grateful to be alive." Reported by This is 12 hours ago.
