Motorcyclist seriously hurt in crash near Little Common, Bexhill-on-Sea

Shortly after 3pm on Saturday (12 July) police were called to the A259 Barnhorn Road, west of Little Common, Bexhill-on-Sea, following a serious road traffic collision.

An orange Kawasaki 650cc motorcycle and a black Volkswagen Passat car, both travelling east, had collided near the former Bungalow Cafe.

The motorcyclist. a 44-year-old Bexhill man, suffered serious, potentially life-changing injuries, and was airlifted to St George's Hospital in Tooting, London, by the Kent, Surrey and Sussex air ambulance. His condition is "critical".

The car driver, a 67-year-old man from Gillingham, Kent, was unhurt.

The A259 was closed between the Little Common and Pevensey roundabouts for almost four hours while emergency services were at the scene, and traffic had to be diverted.

Sgt Stacey Ellott, of the East Sussex road policing unit, said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who saw this collision or noticed either of the parties involved just prior to it occurring.

"They should phone Sussex Police on 101 or email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk, quoting Operation Forum."

Sgt Ellott added: "This was a serious incident which required deployment of the air ambulance and we thank motorists who showed patience and understanding in these difficult and unfortunate circumstances."
