On top of the world as survivor of car crash scales three peaks This is Somerset --

A YOUNG Frome man who miraculously survived a horrific car crash has completed his toughest challenge to date.

Frome Standard Man of the Year Eddie Tymoshyshyn, of Newland Gardens, along with three of his friends, Pete, Zac and Edge, recently took on the Three Peaks challenge, along his trusty dog Charli, to raise funds for brain injury charity, Shine Together charity which supports the intensive care unit at in Frenchay Hospital, in Bristol, that saved his life.

So far he has raised more than £3,000 and hopes to raise in the region of £5,000.

Eddie began his huge challenge to climb Ben Nevis, in Scotland, Scafell Pike, in Cumbria and Snowdon, in Wales, on Friday, July 19, and completed the three mountain climbs in 23 hours and five minutes later.

Two of his friends, Zac and Eddie, had to stop after Ben Nevis, due to problems with their feet.

Eddie said: "It was a really hard challenge and it wasn't the same after my friends quit but me and Pete carried on to the end."

His friend Pete was bitten by an insect and his ankle had swollen to three times the size, making the climb even more difficult.

Pete said: "All of this slowed us down so we had to do the second mountain in less time, meaning a shorter and steeper route but it gave us a good chance to complete the challenge.

"Eddie finished the strongest of us all and he kept me going until the end.

"It was exhausting and we were delighted to complete it."

Eddie said: "I felt ecstatic, on the first mountain we saw about five other groups but at the end we didn't see anyone, so we're not sure any of them finished."

Eddie was a passenger in a car that overturned in Cranmore in December 2011.

He suffered a severe brain injury on impact and was in intensive care at Frenchay for three weeks.

His parents Jo and Paul were told he was unlikely to survive and if he did, would be severely disabled.

But amazingly, he began to show signs of recovery over the following weeks in hospital and now 18 months later he will take on this second challenge, after completing a climb of Snowdon last year which raised more than £1,200 for Headway Bristol.

Eddie is taking his time thinking about his next challenge, while his feet recover.

He would like to meet up with the ambulance team who tended to him at the scene of the accident.

If you are or know the paramedics contact Frome Standard reporter Claire Wilson on 07834 893557.
