A 20-YEAR-OLD motorcyclist died after a crash in which witnesses said he hit a sign.
Paramedics battled to save Kyle Johnson's life after the accident on Monday evening but their efforts were in vain.
The crash took place on the A38, near Derby city centre.
Police were called to the southbound carriageway just north of the Little Chef roundabout at 7.25pm.
Witnesses said the motorbike had left the road and gone into a sign.
Paramedics tried at the roadside to save Mr Johnson, of South Yorkshire, but he later died from his injuries.
The road was closed while emergency services were at the scene and was reopened by 11pm.
Colin Bloomfield, Breakfast Show presenter at BBC Radio Derby, arrived at the scene about 30 seconds after the crash.
The 31-year-old said he saw cars had stopped and he pulled over to see if he could be of any assistance.
Mr Bloomfield said: "Fortunately an off-duty paramedic and off-duty nurse were there helping out."
He said he waited in case they needed an extra pair of hands and left after the paramedics and police arrived.
Mr Bloomfield said: "They were still doing CPR on him as I was leaving. I didn't know how he was until I woke up this morning and heard he had died.
"The off-duty nurse and off-duty paramedic were incredible. They did everything they could to save this man.
"It was a really horrific scene but they were so calm and measured and did such a good job. It's just such a shame they weren't able to save him."
A spokesman for East Midlands Ambulance Service said: "Even when paramedics are not on duty they have a responsibility towards patient care and this is clearly a case where the person involved did their best to save this motorcyclist's life, even though they may not have had the normal equipment available to them."
A police spokeswoman said Mr Johnson's family had been informed of his death and a file was being prepared for the coroner. Reported by This is 3 days ago.
